Driving through Atlanta this weekend, where I used to live, I was surrounded by the vibrant energy of Black-owned businesses. It was more than just a trip down memory lane—it was a glimpse into what’s possible. It made my heart smile, and my mind race. What can I do to help? How can we, as a community, take this vibe and turn it into a movement?
Imagine, just for a moment, if we decided to channel our collective economic power into Black-owned businesses for one day. Why not February 29th? A day that's as unique as our potential. What if this leap day became our leap forward?
What Can We Do to Help?
Think about it. We talk about empowerment and change, but how often do we take a tangible step towards it? We've got spending power—serious spending power. Why not use it where it counts?
How Can We Grow Our Wealth?
Did you know Black Americans have a spending power of over $1.3 trillion annually? But here's the kicker: how much of that stays within our community? What if we redirected just a fraction of that, for one day, to Black-owned businesses? Can you imagine the impact?
Being the Example for Young Black Kids
Remember how we always talk about being the change we want to see? This is it. This isn't just about spending money; it's about showing the next generation what it means to support each other. What it means to build something that lasts. How powerful would it be for young Black kids to see an entire community lifting each other up?
Pulling It Off: Making a Bold Statement
What if we actually did this? What if February 29th became our day to shine, to show the world the power of Black dollars and Black unity? We're talking about making a statement that could echo through history, showing what's possible when we come together.
The Viral Dream: Can We Make It Happen?
We've seen things go viral overnight. Memes, dance challenges, you name it. But what if something meaningful, something impactful, went viral? What if our collective action on February 29th became the next big thing? Is it possible? I believe it is. But it starts with us. With you and me and every Black entrepreneur we know.
So, What's Next?
The ball's in our court. Do we continue to talk, or do we act? Do we let this be just another thought that passed while driving through Atlanta, or do we make it a reality?
Let's start small but think big. Share this with your friends, your family, fellow business owners. Let's get the conversation going. What if we all bought from a Black-owned business on February 29th? What if we made that day our day?
Every time I scroll through our feeds, my heart sinks a bit more with each negative post about one another. It's like we're forgetting the beauty of our own community. So here I am, reaching out to you, my circle, with a simple wish: Let's start a ripple of positivity that could turn into a wave. It might be wishful thinking, but in a world where we've faced so much, what do we have to lose by spreading a little love and support? Let's be the change, together. ♥️
Can you imagine what this could do for our community? For our future? Let's make something positive like this go viral. Because if not us, then who? If not now, when?
It's more than just a day. It's a statement. It's a movement. It's our leap towards a future we all deserve. Let's make it happen. Let's make history.
